“If you’re going to walk on thin ice, you may as well dance!”
Since my teenage years growing up in South Africa, this quote has always stuck with me. It inspires me to approach life fully and joyously, and reminds me not to limit myself by being too careful. This is a philosophy that I also bring into my work - to be bold and be creative. My journey into filmmaking started with stills, particularly with street and travel photography, searching for moments where a single frame could tell a much larger story.
After that, motion picture came naturally to me, offering more space for those stories to breathe. Now, I am happily settled as a documentary filmmaker since the production of my first short doc, “Against the Grain” in 2022. I have since worked on multiple feature documentaries as a cinematographer or camera operator, produced a few more of my own shorts, and often DP for commercials and music videos – where I continue to experiment and push creative boundaries.
At the heart of my documentary work is the simple belief that EVERYONE has a story worth telling. And it is stories that captivate audiences, touch us on a deeper level and inspire change.
Documentary Cinematographer & DP Based in Europe
As a freelance Director of Photography based between The Netherlands and Spain, I work fluidly all across Europe and all over the world, where I regularly collaborate with international crews and local teams.
some fun facts about me:
- I have lived in South Africa, Zanzibar, Denmark, the Czech Republic, and am currently living in the Netherlands, and will soon move to Spain!
- I dream of filming a documentary about Rettir in Iceland. At the end of every summer, farmers go out into the mountains to collect their free-roaming sheep for the winter.
- The only things I actually like to drink are water and fermented drinks like kombucha and ginger beer. Though, I won’t turn down a glass of bubbly.
- I got my first camera at the age of 16, but the bug didn’t bite until 22.
- I was born to ABBA, though I don’t remember which song…
